Hull Web Design Project: HYA Training are a Hull apprenticeships training provider delivering qualifications across Yorkshire. They have been operating for 25 years and provide a range of qualifications at various levels to anyone aged 16 and over and have the following contracts;
- 16-18 Study Programme Provision
- Adult Education Budget
They work with many local businesses and hold preferred supplier status with Hull University Hospitals NHS Trust and City Health Care Partnership for the delivery of apprenticeships.
HYA Training approached us with the aim of creating a new, engaging website to serve their diverse user base, including new and existing students, and employers interested in apprenticeships. The primary goal was to facilitate course applications and registrations, whilst simultaneously providing useful and informative content about their services.
The design process began with the company’s existing logo, which served as the foundation for our colour scheme. We selected a palette of navy blue, turquoise green, and a darkened blue/green blend to complement the logo. We adhered to a rounded design theme, applying it to a multitude of elements such as icons and buttons, thus ensuring aesthetic cohesion throughout the site.
We chose a bold font for titles and a 400 weight regular font for body text to ensure readability and a professional appeal. To visually reinforce the educational focus of the organisation, we utilised a range of stock images featuring young individuals seemingly immersed in learning activities.
Understanding the diverse nature of the users, we strategically structured the page menu into two main sections: one for students and another for employers. The student dropdown was further divided into three sub-sections, namely “Become a Student”, “Our Courses”, and “Existing Learners”. The aim was to ensure seamless navigation, helping users quickly find the information they need.
Every service and course offered by HYA Training received its own dedicated page, replete with detailed information. We enhanced these pages’ search engine performance by adding custom meta titles and meta descriptions, strategically including optimal amounts of keywords associated with each page. All major keywords were included in the headings and page titles to further boost visibility on search engines.
The website was built using WordPress, the world’s leading content management system (CMS), which not only offers robust functionality but also ensures easy content updates and maintenance.
Keeping in line with the trend of mobile browsing, we ensured that the website is mobile-responsive, making it easily navigable on various devices, including smartphones. The primary call-to-action on the site is an “Apply Now” button, positioned strategically to attract potential students.
By the end of the project, we had transformed HYA Training’s digital presence into a highly effective, user-friendly platform, enhancing their ability to attract and serve students and employers alike.
