Hull Help For Refugees Web Design

Hull Web Design Project: Hull Help for Refugees (HHfR) is a grassroots collective of individuals who wish to aid refugees in the current humanitarian crisis. They are a registered charity No. 1176555.

Hull Help For Refugees (HHfR) already had a website for their charity, however it was a very basic website and hadn’t been updated in a long time so contained a lot of outdated information and was in need of a fresh design. They wanted a new website that looked professional, provided up to date information about their charity and was easy for them to keep updated.

We created a new website for HHfR which features a modern design and incorporates their existing logo. We used the same blue colour scheme as their old website but also added some gold and turquoise colours to the design to give it a more interesting look.

The website features a mix of stock images (which we are able to access and properly licence through our stock image account) as well as the charity’s own images of the team. We felt it was very important to personalise the website, with images of both the team and refugees, so that a visitor on the website would feel more of an emotional connection with the charity and be more likely to get involved, be that to donate items or money or to offer to help out.

The website is very easy to navigate and contains up to date information about the charity. When a vistor first visits the homepage of the website they can quickly establish who the charity are, what they do and how to get involved. We made sure that the website has lots of calls to action so that a visitor can easily get involved with the charity. Examples of this are the “Donate” button on the menu and various other pages on the website and a page on the navigation for “Get Involved”. Since launching the website the charity has noticed a big increase in the number of enquiries they receive.

The HHfR site is built on WordPress which is the world’s most popular content management system and powers 34% of all websites on the internet. One big advantage of using WordPress is that it makes it easy for customers to update their own website and can therefore ensure the website contains updated information and all the latest news.

As with all the websites we build, the HHfR website is mobile-friendly and fully optimised for search engines such as Google so ranks very well for search terms such as “help refugees hull” and “refugees hull”.
